The Holidays Are Coming to San Diego – Here Are Our Picks for Events

This year, holiday events and celebrations in San Diego will be a bit different than in previous years due to the pandemic. But not to worry; with plenty of outside activities to partake in with social distancing protocols and safety precautions, your holidays don’t have to be any less merry and bright. Below are some of the holiday events and activities we’re most excited about. Many of the most anticipated holiday events this year involve the city’s zoo and marine life because what better place to socially distance than the zoo or an aquarium? Which of these will you and your family be attending to get your fill of holiday cheer?

  1. Wild Holidays and Jungle Bells at San Diego Zoo Safari Park: November 27th–January 3rd


Wild Holidays begins November 27th at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park and all your favorite animals will be there with bells on. The park will be decorated with seasonal décor, lights, and full of fun activities for families to enjoy. Jungle Bells starts December 4th featuring holiday musicians and performers, activities, and beautiful lighted displays. Both events run through January 3rd.

  1. SeaWorld’s Christmas Celebration: November 13th-January 4th

There’s plenty of holiday cheer this year at SeaWorld’s annual Christmas Celebration. Take in the giant sea-themed Christmas tree while watching Dolphin, Orca, and Sea Lion presentations with a holiday spin. New to the park this year is Santa Presents: Christmas Animals Around the World, which is sure to be a festive hit. The event is included with the cost of admission.

  1. Seas ‘N’ Greetings at Birch Aquarium: November 28th-December 31st


Experience all the magnificent sea creatures with their habitats decorated with holiday décor, SEAsonal music, and lights. The event is included with the cost of admission and free to members. It runs daily 9 am-5 pm. Closed on Christmas Day.

  1. Holidays at LEGOLAND: November 20th-January 10th


There will be socially distanced meet-and-greets with your holiday favorites like LEGO Santa Claus and the Gingerbread man, a 30-foot tall LEGO Christmas tree with over 400 LEGO ornaments and twinkling lights, and a holiday light show each night.

  1. San Diego Bay Parade of Lights: December 13th & December 20th


This year, the San Diego Bay Parade of Lights celebrates its 49th anniversary with the theme of the Twelve Days of Christmas. Come down to the bayfront on the evenings of December 13th and December 20th to take in this year’s dazzling Parade of Lights. Drawing more than 100,000 visitors each year, this has become a staple for many celebrating the holidays in San Diego. The parade begins at 5:30 pm, proceeding towards Cesar Chavez Park before turning towards Coronado, giving spectators ample opportunity to view the parade of approximately 80 festively decked-out boats.
